New Delhi, June 4: The Supreme Court today issued notices on the petition filed by the state of Punjab seeking cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to Raninder Singh, son of former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in the Ludhiana City Centre scam case.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and D K Jain issued notices to Raninder Singh after hearing counsel for the state of Punjab who contended that the custodial interrogation of the accused persons was a must to arrive at the truth in the scam, which has caused massive financial losses to the state exchequer.

The counsel also told the apex court that since the accused are very powerful politicians of the state and include former Chief Minister, his wife and sons, there is strong possibility of the investigations being tampered with in the case.

Capt Singh and his famly members are facing allegations of making crores of rupees through corrupt means in the construction of the LCC over 26 acre of land. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau is investigating the case and Capt Singh has to file tax returns before the Bureau.

The former Chief Minister and Congress leader has, however, made it clear that he has been falsely implicated by the Akali Dal government of the state to settle political scores.

The next date of hearing is June 18.
