Restoration of 619 water bodies completed
New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) The upgradation work of 619 water bodies in the country have been completed till March 2007 under the National Project for Repair, Renovation and Restoration of Water Bodies.
The Ministry of Water Resources had approved the renovation of 1098 water bodies in 26 district in 15 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajahsthan, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal at an estimated cost of Rs 299 crore.
Under the project, it was proposed to restore water bodies throughout the country to their original glory to upgrade the storage capacity significantly. Pilot projects were taken up in five districts in 2005.
