Removal of CEC: Case posted to June 11
Lucknow, June 4 (UNI) Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court today posted for hearing to June 11, the petition of Uttar Pradesh Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Aparmita Prasad Singh challenging his removal from the post.
A vacation bench comprising Justices Sanjay Mishra and Rajiv Sharma passed this order.
In his petition, Mr Singh had claimed he was removed unconstitutionally, which would adversely affect the rule of law and democracy.
However, the state government contended the CEC was removed after effecting relevant amendment in rules and hence the step was well within the legal purview.
