RComm unveils lightest coloured phones with FM at Rs 1,888

New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) Expanding its range of entry-level handsets, Reliance Communications (RComm) today launched the lightest coloured CDMA mobile phones with FM radio priced at Rs 1,888 onwards.

The two handsets under the brand 'Classic', available for Rs 1,888 and Rs 1,919 respectively, is in the lines of 16 low-cost mobile phones to be launched by the company.

Classic 261, weighing 75 gram, is a feather-lite large screen display model, while Classic 761 comes in a trendy brushed silver finish.

''With FM channels now availble in all major cities in the country, our FM radio phones will provide not just mobile connectivity but also portable entertainment at very affordable prices,'' RComm President (Personal Business) S P Shukla told reporters here in a video conference from Mumbai.

The 'Classic' range of phones are SIM-enabled, allowing consumers to move from one CDMA service to another, a flexibility hitherto available only on GSM handsets, Mr Shukla said.

''We believe that this would provide customers looking at second-hand phones an opportunity to buy a new handset. The lowering of handset prices would also increase the telephony penetration in the country.'' RComm launched its first Classic phone at Rs 777 last month, and sold one million handsets in a week.

These handsets will deliver unique features to the customers which include receipt of an automatic SMS by the caller when disconnected.

Commenting on the sales target, Mr Shukla said the company is eyeing the maximum share of the FM segment.

''The FM segment phones' share lies between 25-30 per cent out of the six million subscribers being added every month. We are aiming to grab the maximum share,'' he added.

Classic handsets are available at 1,500 exclusive Reliance showrooms and over three lakh retails serviced by nearly 2,000 distributors.
