New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today expressed happiness that the week-long agitation of the Gujjar community in support of Scheduled Tribe status was resolved amicably following talks between the Rajasthan government and community leaders.

Talking to newspersons, the BJP President said: ''I would like to thank all those who were involved in the negotiations to end the stalemate specially the Gujjar as well as Meena community.'' The two communities were at loggerheads as the Meenas feared that the Gujjar's entry into the ST list would affect all those already existing in the present list. Their good gesture would help restore peace and order in and outside the state, he added.

On a poser, Mr Singh said the Rajasthan government had agreed to consider the Gujjar demands through the committee.

Asked if the BJP would be calling Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for an update on the talks, Mr Singh said the party was in touch with her over the telephone and there was no need for her to come to Delhi.

She has also informed former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior party leader L K Advani about the latest developments, he added.
