Protest in north Kashmir, police lob tear gas shells

Baramulla, June 4 (UNI) Police burst tear gas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators protesting against security forces for allegedly showing ''disrespect'' to the bodies of two militants killed in an encounter at Bandipora in north Kashmir early today.

Official sources said hundreds of villagers, including women, took to the streets this afternoon after the bodies of the militants killed at village Qazipora in Bandipora were brought to police station.

The demonstrators alleged that the security forces shot at and wounded a girl Rifat after the encounter.

However, the sources said she was injured during the shootout.

The police resorted to repeated baton-charge to disperse the demonstrators who reportedly set on fire a vehicle.

About half-a-dozen people were injured in the incident, the sources said.
