Prabhamrit and Shilpa upset seeded players

Chandigarh, June 4 (UNI) Qualifier Prabhamrit Kaur of Chandigarh caused a mild upset as she defeated third seed Arushi Sharma of Delhi 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the girls Under-16 singles match in the AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 CLTA Stadium here today.

Another qualifier from Chandigarh who held the spotlight in the girls Under-16 singles first round match was Shilpa Naruka who upset fifth seed D Yamini Reddy of Karnataka 7-5, 6-7 (1), 6-4. This marathon match was interrupted on a number of occasions due to disputed line calls.

However, top seed Garima Vatwani of Delhi outpalyed Carol Augustine of Delhi in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Qualifier Pankaj Kumar went down fighting to Garry Singh Amor in an all-Chandigarh boys Under-14 singles first round encounter. Garry Amor won 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Ikttesh Chahal of Chandigarh prevailed over qualifier Tarranium Handa of Delhi in a hard-fought three sets 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in the girls Under-14 singles first round encounter. Ravnoor Kaur, of Chandigarh, unleashed good shots from the baseline as she defeated Kirandeep Kaur Kotade of Gujarat 6-3, 6-2.
