Police pick up person offering to fix Mulayam case from Amar's place

New Delhi, Jun 4 (UNI) A person who allegedly made an offer to Samajawadi party leader Amar Singh to ''fix' the disproportionate assets case against party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his relatives in the Supreme Court in return for Rs five crore for Justice AR Lakshmanan was today picked up by Delhi Police from the residence of Mr Singh.

Justice Lakshmanan, who has recently been made Chairman of the Law Commission after his retirement had received letters levelling allegations against him while he was in Supreme Court, hearing former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's son plea against a court-mandated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case of disporportinate assest against his family members.

Mr Amar Singh Singh told reporters here the ''imposter'', who called himself as BK Verma, a senior law officer of the central government, had been making phone calls to him, making the offer for the last about three months and during this period, he came to meet him thrice.

According to the SP leader, Verma told him that he could get the case against Mr Yadav fixed through Justice Lakshmanan. The person said though Justice Lakshmanan was not in the Supreme Court, he would use his influence to get the case fixed in return for Rs five crore.

Mr Singh said he called Delhi Police Commisioner K K Paul this morning when the person came to his residence with the same offer again.

''In fact he had called me last night and I askd him to come over.

Meanwhile, I had also called my lawyer and a witness. So as soon as the person reached my residence, I called the Police Chief and I am thankful that he immediately sent a team headed by ACP Sanjeev Yadav to arrest him,'' he said.

The SP leader, who said he failed to understand the motive of the person's action and the design behind the whole matter, wanted the police ''to uravel the truth as fast as possible.'' UNI
