Pillion riders need not be compelled
Chennai, Jun 4 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today left it to the choice of pillion drivers on the need to wear helmets following receipt of complaints from the public.
An official release here said as per the Motor Vehicles Act the government made wearing of helmets mandatory, both by the rider and those in pillion, including women and children, from June one in all the six corporation limits of the state.
Since there were complaints of inconvenience to women and children, the government said though wearing of helmet was good from safety point of view, it was left to women and children riding on the pillion to decide on it.
