K'taka: NGO to train Govt primary school teachers

Chamarajanagara (Karnataka), June 4: A voluntary organisation committed to the welfare of orphaned, abandoned and destitute children, has said it will develop an educational resource centre to provide teacher support activities for Government Primary School teachers.

Secretary G S Jayadeva of Deenabandhu, the voluntary organisation, told UNI that they would adopt some Government primary schools to train their teachers at workshops, where they will be encouraged to use locally available materials as teaching aids.

Qualified resource persons would provide sustained support to the teachers at the classroom level.

He said, the institute's main objective was creative teaching with a variety of activities, respect for each child's unique personality and aptitude, and parental and community involvement.

Mr Jayadeva said, the institute, which was already running a home for boys, proposed to start a girls home with a strength of 30. An exclusive building near the existing school campus would be built shortly to accommodate them, he added.

Deenabandhu had also started a primary school to provide free high quality education for children of poor farmers, landless labourers and other socially marginalised groups. The special programme for children will also start included mid-day meal and health education.

It also conducted workshops in a cluster of villages, teaching Self Help Group (SHGs) members to give education on budgeting, book keeping, saving schemes and dealing with banks, effective farming techniques to farmers and providing environmental awareness.

Project 'Pragati' was a unique project for women under the auspices of Deenabandhu to generate employment opportunities by establishing a garment production unit.
