Guwahati, Jun 4 (UNI) The Director General of Police (DGPs) and GOCs of four Northeastern states held a meeting at the DGP headquarters here today and reviewed the inter-state counter insurgency mechanism.

According to Home Department sources, the meeting was convened to chalk out the next phase of strategy against the militant outfits in the region, especially the ULFA, in the wake of intensified militant strikes across Asom.

The DGPs and Inspector Generals of Police (law and order and intelligence) of Asom, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh attended the meeting.

The particulars of the meeting were not disclosed to newspersons.

Asom DGP R N Mathur said, ''We cannot disclose the particulars. It was a departmental meeting.'' However, the DGP mentioned regional cooperation as the agenda as the ULFA was known to use other states' territories.

Recently, there were reports that the army would launch a massive anti-insurgency operation in Asom after the recent spurt in violence.
