Hardwar , June 4 (UNI) The chairman of the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and retired judge of the Supreme Court, Justice M B Shah has said in view of the increasing work load on consumer courts more benches of the consumer courts would be set up at the national and state level.

Talking to reporters here last evening, Justice Shah said that the consumer courts had taken away 60 per cent of the burden from the civil courts in the country and so far 93 lakh disputes had been disposed off in various consumer fora in the country.

"However, in view of the increasing work load there was an urgent need to provide more infrastructure facilities to the consumer courts and to set up more circuit benches at the national and state level", he said.

He informed that 8,000 consumer disputes were pending in the national commission at this time."There are three benches, with only 6 members in the commission. It is proposed to appoint four more members, increasing the number of the benches from 3 to 5 to cope with the increasing work load", he said.
