M P Lama appointed first Vice-Chancellor of Sikkim CU
Gangtok, Jun 4 (UNI) Noted economist and professor in Jawaharlal Nehru University Dr Mahendra P Lama has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor of the newly established Central University in Sikkim.
Prof Lama was selected by President A P J Abdul Kalam from a panel of eminent and senior academicians and administrators recommended by the Search Committee, appointed by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, official sources said here today.
Born and educated in schools at Darjeeling and JNU, Prof Lama is known for his intellectual contributions to regional cooperation and integration in Asia.
He joined as a professor in JNU in 2000 and has become the youngest Vice-Chancellor of a Central University in the country.
There are only 20 CUs in the country, which include JNU, Delhi University, Banaras Hindu University and North Eastern Hill University.
