Intel employees to build rain harvesting system in Karnataka village

Bangalore Jun 4 (UNI) In an effort to enhance societal welfare through the conservation of natural resources, Intel India and the Children's Love Castle Trust (CLT) India have joined hands to harvest rain water in the water-scarce village of Kurubarakunte in Karnataka.

In keeping with the spirit of Environment Day, about 150 Intel employees would be involved in constructing 15 rain water harvesting tanks, building three solid waste management units, planting 1000 trees and conducting an awareness programme on the segregation of waste and health and hygiene in the village on June Eight.

With the primary occupation of Kurubarakunte being pottery, the villagers largely depend on the rain for their livelihood and have been facing severe water shortage over the last few years. With the objective of helping the community tackle their water problems, Intel India employees have been engaged in the construction of about 13 rain water harvesting tanks over the last year. Aside from the main objective of collection and use of rainwater, these tanks also serve multiple purposes such as being storage tanks in summer, vegetable cutting tables for the women and reading tables for the children, among others.

According to Rahul Bedi, Director, Corporate Affairs, South Asia and Business Operations Manager, Intel India "as a socially responsible corporate citizen, Intel India is focused on enhancing lives by helping provide a fair opportunity to education, improved healthcare as well as undertaking various community welfare initiatives''.
