Agartala, June 4 (UNI) Gauhati High Court has ordered a judicial inquiry into the killing of two tribals in an encounter.

The incident occurred on February 28, 2005, in Kachucherra area in Northern Tripura.

Justice R B Mishra, after hearing the case, instructed North Tripura Chief Judicial Magistrate(CJM) Sukumar Saha to carry out the probe and submit the report within four months.

Police said two brothers--Aparup(32) and Foren Debbarmma(30) died during an encounter between the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the police.

''A group of NLFT ultras had ambushed the security forces engaged in anti-insurgency operations in Kachucherra area. The brothers were killed on the spot in the police firing,'' police added.

Police said though their name was not in the wanted NLFT militants list, Aparup had been accused of bank robbery in Kamalpur some five year ago but Foren did not have any criminal record.

The wives of the victims accused the police of murdering their husbands and filed separate cases in the High Court seeking compensation of Rs 15 lakh.

They alleged that the post mortem report revealed that a carbine was used to kill them but the ammunition found in the bodies did not match the empty cartridge.
