Gujjars clash with police in Kaithal district
Kaithal, June 4 (UNI) Police resorted to lathicharge when agitating gujjars attacked a police post in Kiodak village in the district today and pelted policemen with stones, injuring five of them.
The Gujjars first assembled in large numbers in a park in Kaithal district town and took out a procession towards the District Magistarate's office. They were however stopped on the way by the police and turned back after they submitted a memorandum to district authorities in support of the community's demand for its inclusion in Scheludes Tribes.
On the way, they damaged the signboars of various shops and other hoardings in the market.
The agitators later assembled in Kiodak village and attacked the police post there. They smashed the police wireless sets and pelted the policemen with stones.
Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the irate crowd.
Five policemen were injured while several people were taken in police custody.
