Gates Foundation team meets Haryana Governor
New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) An eight-member delegation from the bill and Melinda Gates Foundation today called on Haryana Governor A R Kidwai here to explore possibilities for setting up of real time village-based agriculture extension.
The delegation was headed by Dr Dwight W Allen, an eminent scholar of Educational Reform of Old Dominion University, the US.
On the occasion, Dr Kidwai apprised the delegation about the various effective steps being taken by the Haryana government for increasing productivity research activities in agriculture sector in the state.
Chaudhry Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University Vice Chancellor J C Katyal said that Haryana has earned a remarkable achievement by adopting the BT cotton technology in increasing productivity of cotton in the state which has risen to more than 550 kg per hectare, earlier which was about 300 kg per hectare.
After the meeting, the delegation left for CCS Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar, on a two-day visit where they will discuss with the scientists of the university regarding the possibility of a project to be launched in Haryana on a new extension model.
It will also visit the villages to have a interaction with the farmers.
