Five CPM women workers arrest, injure

Guntur, Jun 4 (UNI) Five Communist Party of India (Marxist) women workers today sustained simple injuries when police used force to remove them from the Joint Collector's chamber in the collectorate here.

About 500 women, led by CPM District Secretary Ramadevi participated in the dharna at the district collectorate. Suddenly 100 women entered into the JC's chamber and started chanting slogans demanding house sites to the landless poor.

Meanwhile, about 1,000 shelterless poor led by CPI District Secretary M Nageswara Rao had occupied 22 acres of vacant land belonging to the Guntur Municipal Corporataon (GMC). The Municipal Commissioner in-charge Chakrapani urged the agitators to leave the place which was intended for construction of drinking water treatment plant. As the agitators did not respond, police arrested them and dispersed the rest.
