Death toll due to lightning rises to 26 in Marathwada
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, June 4 (UNI) Casualties due to heavy rains that lashed Marathwada region since May one, has gone up to 26.
According to sources at the District Divisional Commissioner's office, there were four deaths yesterday in the region and three cattle also perished.
Of the four deaths, three were from Latur and one from Nanded, while all the cattle deaths were reports from Latur.
Dyanoba Lingoji (29) and 65-year-old Pundlik Shinde were working at Mogha in Udgir taluka, when lightning struck killing them on the spot, the sources said.
Sanjay Kamble (35) from Hali in Ahmedpur succumbed to burn injuries due to lightning while on way to hospital. One Sunil Yadavrao Naik (35) was fetching water from the well at Devlur in Bijalwai when lightning hit him and he died on the spot.
On May 31 alone, eight people including two minors were killed and three others injured in rain-related incidents.
Five deaths, including three in one family were reported from Jalna, where four others were injured. Three died in Hingoli and one each in Latur and Osmanabad. Of the four cattle deaths, two were from Jalna and two from Hingoli, sources added.
