CWC's Logistics Park to meet demand of trade: Pawar

Navi Mumbai, June 4 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said the fourth container terminal in the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) area will come up at Uran soon and result in an upsurge of trade volume of about 100 per cent in the next four to five years.

After inaugurating the Logistics Park of the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) at Uran, near here, Mr Pawar said this will be the 20th container freight station in the JNPT area and will handle large volumes.

Describing the Logistics Park as the largest area of any port side container freight station in the country, he said it would not only meet the demand of the trade but would enhance cargo-handing capacity of the JNPT.

The CWC, which is a premier public sector organisation in the country, has not only become the second organisation in the country to run container train in the country to JNPT but has also become a total supply chain management provider enabling single window clearance to the trade. both for domestic and impex, cargo, he said.

The Minister said CWC has charted its path ahead by providing railway line side warehousing complexes at several locations in the country in association with the Indian Railways and the corporation is in the process of forming a subsidary as a lead promoter to carve out logistics based activity in totality.

He said the subsidiary company will be in a position to cater to the needs of the the trade for faster and cheaper supply chain management solutions.

Complimenting CWC, Mr Pawar said it has not limited itself to the Indian shores but has ventures in countries like Uruguay, Bulgaria and Philippines, where it has carved a niche for itself in collateral warehouse management logistics support.
