CPI(M) stages dharna before Collectorates in AP
Hyderabad, June 4: The CPI(M) today staged maha dharnas in front of 17 Collectorates in Andhra Pradesh, demanding house sites and agricultural lands for the poor.
Police arrested the CPI(M) activists, who were trying to lay siege to the Collector's office in Warangal district. A few activists were also taken into custody as they occupied Government lands on the outskirts of Warangal town as part of the recently-launched 'Bhooporatam'.
Police resorted to lathicharge on the activists who tried to enter the Guntur collectorate.
Reports from various districts said police forces were deployed at the Collectorates to prevent any untoward incident.
The CPI(M) was demanding that the report of the Koneru Ranga Rao Committee be made public, land problem resolved, cases foisted against CPI(M) leaders, cadres and the poor withdrawn, and all those arrested during the agitation released.
The State Government would be organising a workshop on Koneru Ranga Rao Committee's report on June 12.
