CPI extends support to demolition drive in Munnar
Thiruvananthapuram, June 4 (UNI) The State Executive meeting of the CPI, which met here today, urged the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government to continue the ongoing stern action against those who encroached upon the Revenue and Forest lands in the state.
Lauding the Government drive in recovering its land, the meeting noted that the government had retrieved hundreds of acres of such land from encroachers, a statement said here.
Pointing out that thousands of acres of Government land in Munnar and Chinnakanal region were still possessed by encroachers, the meeting suggested that the Government should take effective measures to recover these lands without any political considerations. The Government would never submit to any kind of pressure, it said.
While taking action against encroachers, the Government should ensure that the officials engaged in the drive would not evacuate adivasis and other poor people.
Alleging that there was some 'mystery' behind the forcible demolition of the CPI party office at Munnar, the meeting said it was built on the land bought by the party in 1958.
