BSNL godown gutted in fire

Tirupati, June 4 (UNI) Nearly 30 lakh BSNL stocks of PLB Pipes, Optic Fibre Cable (OFC), Kits and Distribution Point (DP) Boxes were reduced to ashes in an open godown in old Tiruchanoor road near here last evening, sources today said.

According to fire tender officials here the security guard who noticed the fire, disconnected power supply to the godown and alerted the fire tenders who rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

Meanwhile, the fire engulfed most of the materials in the godown.

BSNL officials said the exact reason for the mishap was yet to be ascertained. The security shed was totally gutted. Bundles of PLB cables were also damaged in the fire along with some OFC Pipes.

The value of the property damaged has not yet been ascertained.

However, preliminary estimates said the loss to be of around several lakhs, the officials said.
