Border town in Manipur tense

Imphal, June 4 (UNI) The killing of a 24-year old youth by suspected Kuki militants at Moreh in Chandel district has created a tense situation here today.

The incident occurred yesterday following which the district administration has clamped prohibitory orders Under CR PC 144 prohibiting assembly of people.

The organisations based at Moreh have also called indefinite bandh to protest the killing. All shops were also closed.

The youth was identified as Yumnam Roshan.

Due to the stir the Indo-Myanmar border trade was affected for the second day today.

The Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Meitei Council, All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), Chandel unit, Chandel District Development Society, Women Development Association, Moreh, and Muslim Nagar and Minority Women Development Society have announced the stir opposing the killing.

The organisations had demanded immediate shifting of the 24 Assam Rifles alleging that they were playing communal politics by supporting Kuki militants.

Meanwhile, senior civil and police officials have rushed to Moreh.
