Gulbarga, June 4 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is contemplating filing a contempt of court case against Congress Cheif Sonia Gandhi for her controversial statement on Mahadayi water sharing with Karnataka, Senior BJP leader and Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said today.

Taking great exception to Ms Gandhi's alleged remarks that the Congress would not allow diversion of the Mahadayi water, Mr Yediyurappa told newsmen here, ''Since the issue is pending before the court, Ms Gandhi's statemnt amounted to contempt of court.'' ''We are contemplating filing a 'contempt of court' petition against her for her controversial statement on Mahadayi waters which is pending in the apex court,'' he added.

The Deputy CM alleged that by making such a statement during election campaign in Goa, the Congress high command had violated the model code of conduct. ''Her (Ms Gandhi's) statement was nothing but betrayal of people of Karnataka,'' he said.

Urging the Congress leaders to bring pressure on Ms Gandhi to withdraw her remarks, he warned of a statewide agitation in protest against the statement.
