Bandh in MP town
Gwalior, June 4 (UNI) A local bandh -in support of the pro-reservation agitation that has just been called off by Rajasthan's Gurjars -- evoked a mixed response today.
Hundreds of Gurjars led by Congress leader Umrao Singh Gurjar blocked the Neemuch-Kota highway for about an hour at Diken in Neemuch district, which borders the desert state. A fuel pump and minibus were pelted with stones here.
Rallies were brought out in Lashkar and Murar suburbs. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was burnt in effigy and a memorandum handed over to Additional District Magistrate Shivraj Verma after a rally at Maharaj Bada.
''The memo demanded that Rs 15 lakh each be given as ex gratia to families of those killed during the agitation, employment for at least one member of every family and registration of murder case against guilty officials,'' said Madhya Pradesh Gurjar Vikas Sangathan President Veerendrasingh Harshana.
