Assembly bypoll counting
Shivpuri(MP), June 4 (UNI) Counting of votes polled in assembly byelection in Shivpuri constituency will begin at the Madhavrao Scindia Government P G College here from 0800 hrs tomorrow.
Elaborate security arrangements will be made at the venue, where 14 tables have been laid to facilitate counting of votes recorded in EVMs, official sources said, adding local police and CRPF jawans will be deployed as a security measure.
Nearly 56.6 per cent of the 1.96 lakh electorate exercised their franchise on June 2 in the bypoll necessitated due to the resignation of then state Tourism Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia(BJP) following her election to Lok Sabha from Gwalior.
Fifteen candidates, including 10 independents, were in the fray. Prominent among them include former Congress leader Ganesh Gautam from BJP, Jyotiraditya Scindia-loyalist businessman Virendra Raghuvanshi(Congress) and Uma Bharti-led Bhartiya Jan Shakti-nominee Narendra Birthare. Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Samanata Dal nominees also contested the elections.
