Lucknow, June 4 (UNI) The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court today disposed of a writ petition filed by Samajwadi Party general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh praying for continuation of his 'Z' category security.

Mr Singh had challenged the alleged move by the newly-elected Uttar Pradesh government to strip him of the security cover, saying it was due to politically motivated reasons.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Sanjay Mishra and Rajiv Sharma, further directed the petitioner to pursue his case with the UP government with representation within a week.

The state government has been asked to settle the matter within 14 days.

The order was passed by the bench after hearing Mr Singh's counsel Virendra Bhatia and advocate general Jyotindra Mishra, who represented the state government.

Mr Singh had claimed the government had provided him the security on the recommendation of the Centre after he received threats by terrorist organisations in 2004.

Mr Singh was given 10 Cobra Commandos under the 'Z' category security cover.
