3 of family killed, 8 hurt in van-bus collision

Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, June 4 (UNI) Three members of a family were killed and eight injured in a head-on collision between a van and a state-owned bus at Sokkampatti Cross under Nathamapatti Police Limits in the district today.

Police here said the accident occurred when one of the tyres of the van in which the victims and two of the injured were travelling burst, leading to the collision with the bus bound for Shencottah from Madurai.

The deceased, identified as S Subramanian (53) of Tenkasi, his wife Gomathi (45) and daughter Selvi (20) died on the spot. The van was crushed in the collision.

Subramanian's another daughter, Arul Jothi, and the driver were being treated at a corporate hospital in Madurai. The condition of the girl was stated to be critical.

Six passengers of the bus who sustained minor injuries were treated as out-patients, police added.
