2 lakh fake currency seized, contractor arrested

Guwahati, Jun 4 (UNI) Police today seized fake notes of Rs 2 lakh from the house of a coal contractor at Jorhat in upper Asom.

Acting on a tip off, an SDPO led a police team and raided the residence of Tel Ali at Nakachari, around 23 km from Jorhat, and recovered the fake notes.

Ali ia also an accused in the multi-crore oil pilferage scam that rocked Asom four years back, whose kingpin was Sivasagar-based businessman Putul Gogoi.

Ali was arrested and was being interrogated.

Police refused to give details.
