Strive to make Tamil official language: MK

Chennai, June 3: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi, who turned 84 today, said the Tamil people especially the youth, should strive for realising the ambition of making Tamil as official language at the Centre along with English and Hindi.

Mr Karunanidhi said this as his birthday message when newspersons felicitated him on the occasion at the party headquarters 'Anna Arivalayam'.

Mr Karunanidhi said to foster national integration and unity between the states, various rivers have to be interlinked.

''I had already spoken to the Prime Minister about this during my recent visit to New Delhi,'' he said.

Mr Karunanidhi said he would also appeal to the Prime Minister, during his ensuing visit to New Delhi, to convene a national level conference on the issue.

''These (interlinking of rivers and Tamil as official language) two issues have been my longstanding objective as well as that of the DMK party', he added.
