Temperature crosses 44 degrees Celsius twice in a week

Jamshedpur, Jun 3 (UNI) Despite showers last evening, the mercury has shot up to 44.6 degrees Celsius, recording the second highest hottest day of the season in the steel city here today.

The continuing heat wave for the past fortnight in the Chhotanagpur plateau crippled normal life, with the temperature was flactuating between 40 to 43 degrees Celsius while 44.7 degrees Celsius was recorded as the highest on May 27 last.

The Meteorological office here recorded 17.4 mm rain fall in the last 24 hours but it was not enough to cool down the unbearable heat wave condition.

The heat wave had already claimed three lives in last one week and the victims were being admitted in the private and the government hospitals. The number of such patients was increasing sharply in the past few days, the sources said.

The weather office predicted that the heat wave condition would continue for a few more days.
