Sena activists ransack cyber cafe over defamatory material
Thane, June 4 (UNI) About 50 Shiv Sena activists today allegedly ransacked a cyber cafe at Kalyan in Thane district for displaying a website containing defamatory material against party supremo Bal Thackeray, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Lord Rama.
The defamatory writing was posted on social networking site 'Orkut', allegedly by two persons--a student from Kalyan and an individual from Orissa.
The Sena supporters had last night asked cyber cafes in Kalyan to stop access to Orkut. Some obliged, while others like I-way objected and hence their place was ransacked, police sources said.
The mob, led by city Sena chief Arvind More, damaged furniture and equipment at I-way cyber cafe.
Complaints have been registered against the cyber cafe owner and activists at the Mahatma Phule police station in Kalyan.
As a precautionary measure, security has been beefed up in the entire commissionerate, sources added.
