RTI enacted to bring about transparency, says Kokje

Shimla, Jun 3 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje today said the Right to Information Act has been enacted to ensure transparency and accountability in the governments.

Delivering a lecture on Right to Information Act at the twelfth Annual Summer Law Programme here, he said there was a need for giving more publicity to the provisions of the Act especially in the rural areas to have any impact.

The Summer Law Programme has been authorized by the Accreditation Committee of American Bar Association, Section of Legal Education and the participants were drawn from all the Law Universities of United States of America (USA).

Mr Kokje also interacted with the students, faculty and local lawyers and discussed various aspects of the Right to Information Act.

The students of Summer Law School are being taught Indian Law and Philosophy and International Human Rights, Comparative Study of Gender and Race besides International Criminal Law.

The Summer Law Programme, which began on May 29, would continue up to July, 2007 two.

Students from Calcutta University of Judicial Services would also under-go extensive study in the Summer Law School.
