Naga: Rio wins confidence to continue DAN govt
Kohima, June 03: Dismissing all speculations Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio won the confidence of 26 legislators of the Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) to continue the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government in the state yesterday.
A release issued by NPF President and Higher Education Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu late last night stated the meeting of the NPF at the Chief Minister's residence was attended by 26 legislators, including two Associated members (Independent), of total 32 members.
However, PHE Minister P Longon could not attend the meeting as he is away in China.
Shurhozelie said six NPF legislators namely Kihoto Hollohon, Yeangpong Konyak, K Therie, Z Obed, T Tali and Vatsu Meru (the last four under suspension from the party), along with Independent legislator Khutovi were absent in the meeting.
The NPF president said the resolution adopted by the legislators proved that majority of them support Mr Rio.
It further added that the claim made by Z Obed and K Therie that the government had been reduced to minority was "hollow", aimed at misguiding the general public and "diverting the people" from the developmental works being undertaken by DAN.
Informed sources said the NPF legislator present in yesterday's meeting pledged to abide by principles and directives of the party and its leadership. The statement, undertaken yesterday at the CM's residential office, would be submitted to the Speaker of state Assembly.
