Labour union sore over subversion of scheme

Darbhanga, June 3 (UNI) All India Field Labour Union(AIFLU) general secretary Dhirendra Kumar Jha today alleged that the employment Assurance Scheme(EAS) under the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) government had turned into a scheme for ''loot and plunder''.

Speaking at a district review camp organised here at Laheriasarai, Mr Jha said the UPA, as well as some of the state governments had misused the scheme.

The word ''assurance'' in the scheme had lost its significance as it had been politicised by corrupt politicians and bureaucrats over the years, he added.

Mr Jha noted that the scheme provided for the generation of 100 days' employment for the unemployed people failing of which the persons would be entitled to unemployment allowance. They said provision had been ''blatantly violated'' in Bihar, he alleged and concluded that the entire state machinery was corrupt here.

He also criticised the MPs and MLAs, who according to him, had maintained a mysterious silence on the issue and announced that the field labour union activists would organise a funeral procession of them in entire Mithilanchal region on June 15.
