Goswami to attend Naidu's conclave
Guwahati, June 3 (UNI) Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) president Brindabon Goswami would attend the regional parties' conclave organised by TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence in Hyderabad on June 6.
AGP sources said Mr Goswami would be accompanied by party's Lok Sabha MPs Dr Arun Sharma and Sarbananda Sonowal to the meeting for deciding on a common strategy for the forthcoming Presidential elections.
However, the AGP, which had been advocating the formation of a Third Front at the initiative of regional parties as an alternative to the Congress and BJP in the country, was seeing an opportunity in the meeting to bring up the issue of a Third Front.
The AGP president was in full support of a national-level Third Front by regional political parties for giving importance to the regional parties in national policy-making process.
Regarding the party's stand on presidential elections, the AGP was rooting for a 'secular image' and the party might support a candidate who was backed by the Left parties. The AGP had a good rapport with the Left parties in Asom, despite the latter's support towatds the Congress-led UPA in the Centre.
