Farmer immolates himself in Yavatmal
Nagpur, Jun 3 (UNI) A farmer allegedly committed suicide by immolating himself in a remote village in Yavatmal district in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra.
Yavatmal district superintendent of police Abdur Rehman told UNI on telephone that the farmer, identified as Chandrabhan Shivram Jamdade (46), set himself afire in his field in village Aregaon in Pusad tehsil late Friday evening.
Jamdade had left the house on Friday evening on the pretext of relieving himself, but did not return home till the next day, the SP said. Worried, the family began looking for him, only to find his charred body in the field late last evening, he said.
The farmer had set himself afire in his field, sustained 100 per cent burns and succumbed on the spot, Mr Rehman said. However, the cause of the suicide was not yet known, and the police were investigating whether Jamdade had any outstanding debt, he said.
It was also not yet clear as to how Jamdade had immolated himself and the matter was still under investigation, he added.
