Chief Advisor Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed admitted to CMH

Dhaka, June 3 (UNI) Head of Bangladesh's army-backed interim government, Fakhruddin Ahmed, was flown back to the capital and admitted to Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH) today after he fainted while addressing a public function in Tangail town, about 100 kms from here.

Mr Ahmed (67) was delivering an extempore speech for more than an hour on his government's activities including the current anti-corruption drive, while he fell sick at about 1140 hrs on the podium and was rushed to Tangail Hospital.

The doctors at the Hospital said Ahmed fell sick due to over exhaustion. He was conscious and out of danger, they said adding he was advised to take rest.

Ahmed, a former central bank governor and a bureaucrat of the World Bank, assumed the office of the Chief Advisor of the interim caretaker government on January 12 under the state of emergency.
