13 Sri Lankans injured due to fire while repairing Indian ship

Colombo, June 3 (UNI) Thirteen Sri Lankan technical workers were injured in a fire while repairing an Indian merchant vessel at the Colombo harbour today, officials here said.

''The fire broke out suddenly in the engine room when the technicians were carrying out repairs on the Indian ship this afternoon but was put out within about an hour,'' Officials said.

The vessel was at dry docks of the Colombo Dockyard and it is believed to be an accidental fire.

Director Accidental Services of the Colombo National Hospital, Dr Hector Weerasinghe said all thirteen Sri Lankans were admitted to the accident ward this afternoon with burn injuries.

''Some of them were with serious burn injuries,'' Dr Weerasinghe said.
