Patna, June 3 (UNI) Altogether 1.22 crore objections had been received so far during the verification of below poverty list(BPL) at various places in the Bihar.

State rural development department sources said that a massive drive for rectification of irregularities in BPL list had been launched in the state.

The verification process of the BPL list was being carried out in 6,125 panchayats while it had already been completed in 559.

In 22 panchayats, the Gram Sabha had been organised to give final touches of the list, as per the guidelines of the Centre, sources said.

''Scorching heat is proving to be an impediment in organising the Gram Sabha, so it was being organised in the morning after informing the local people well in advance'' sources added.

Meanwhile, reports from Bhagalpur said that payment of salaries to 50 officers and emplyees had been held up on charges of dereliction of duties, following the directive of the district magistrate Bipin Kumar. Show-cause notices to six block development officers had also been issued on similar charges.

Earlier, amid widespread hue and cry over the alleged irregularities in the BPL list, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had announced that rectification process of the list would be carried out expeditiously and its corrected version would be circulated for smooth implementation of various poverty alleviation programmes.
