Chennai, June 2 (UNI) Two people were hacked to death by an auto-borne gang in broad daylight near the Stanley Medical College Hospital at Tondiarpet in North Chennai, today.

Police sources said the victims were identified as Anbu (32) and Sarathy (35).

The cold-blooded murders in the busy area sent shivers down the spines of the passersby. The five-member gang, armed with deadly weapons like sickles, knives and iron rods, waylaid the victims, travelling in a two-wheeler, and attacked them fatally.

The gang, overtook the two-wheeler and blocked it by parking the auto in front of it. As they duo stopped the vehicle, the gang pounced on them and attacked relentlessly.

When the victims tried to flee, they were chased and attacked.

Both died on the spot and the bodies lay in a pool of blood, before police rushed to the spot and removed them for post mortem.

The gang fled in the same auto.

Considering the brazenness and cavalier attitude of the gang, police suspect that they were very well connected.

Police also suspect that previous enmity might have been the reason for the crime.
