Turnover higher at Rs 513.14 cr at MCX

Mumbai, June 2 (UNI) The turnover of all essential and non-essential commodities was recorded higher at Rs 513.14 crore, with trades of 11,417, on Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) in the first half-day session today.

MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metal, energy and agri indices -- was down 0.01 per cent (pc) at 2,161.89 points. MCX Metal Index was up 0.04 pc at 2,606.13 points, MCX Energy Index was down 0.09 pc at 2,168.25 points and MCX Agri Index ended up 0.03 pc at 1,693.06 points, a release said.

Bullion turnover totalled Rs 230.6 crore, with gold accounting for Rs 149.52 crore and silver for Rs 81.09 crore. Gold contract volumes were 1,671 kg and open interest (OI) 11,675 kg, while silver volumes were 43,415 kg and OI was 490,765 kg. Gold contracts, including gold mini, traded in a positive range of Rs 5-28 per 10 gm, with the June contract up 0.27 per cent at Rs 8796. Silver contracts, including silver mini, traded between Rs 10 and 100 per kg. The July contract was up 0.05 pc at Rs 18,626 per kg.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 20.60 crore with volume of 673,000 kg and OI of 13,881,000 kg. Copper contracts traded between Re -0.10 and 0.05 per kg, with the June contract down 0.35 pc at Rs 305.85 per kg. Turnover of all zinc contracts was at Rs 12.72 crore with volume of 830 tonnes and OI of 20,770 tonnes.

Zinc contracts traded between Re 0.05 and 0.60, with the June contract steady at Rs 153.10 per kg. Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 18.90 crore with volume of 95,750 kg and OI of 348,750 kg. Nickel for June delivery was down 0.09 pc at Rs 1,975.30 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was at Rs 0.93 crore, with volume of 82 tonnes and OI of 4,896 tonnes. Aluminium June '07 contract was up 0.35 pc at Rs 113.90per kg.

In the energy segment, crude oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 37.74 crore. Volume was 142,600 barrels and OI 1,101,200 barrels.

Crude oil June contract was down 0.08 pc at Rs 2,634 per barrel, the release said.

Natural gas turnover of all contracts was at Rs 1.4 crore with volume of 43,000 mmBTU and OI of 1,257,500 mmBTU. Natural gas for June delivery was up 0.22 per cent at Rs 319.40 per mmBTU.

Among agri commodities, guarseed contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 15.22 crore with volume of 8,430 tonnes and OI of 5,960 tonnes.

The June contract gained 1.46 pc to end at Rs 1,775 per quintal.

Potato (Agra and Tarkeshwar) witnessed a turnover of Rs 9.8 crore with volume of 15,990 tonnes and OI of 97,800 tonnes. Mentha oil contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 29.10 crore with volume of 573 tonnes and OI of 1,054 tonnes. Chana contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 1.13 crore, volume of 510 tonnes and OI of 3,720 tonnes.

Refined soya oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 123.97 crore with volume of 25,190 tonnes and OI of 46,830 tonnes. Robusta coffee turnover was Rs 0.05 crore with volume of 8 tonnes and OI of 659 tonnes. Cardamom contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 3.35 crore, volume of 70 tonnes and OI of 263 tonnes. Soyabean turnover was Rs 4.2 crore, volume 27,200 tonnes and OI 6,800 tonnes, the release added.
