Train services partially restored in Rajasthan

New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) With violence showing signs of abatement in Rajasthan, long distance trains passing through the desert state which had been crippled by the Gujjar agitation for the last four days, would be resumed on the Delhi-Mumbai route via Gangapur city and Rewari-Jaipur section from today, a Railway Ministry official said.

''The 2904 Golden Temple Mail (Amritsar-Mumbai Central) would be the first train to be restored on this route following a high-level discussion between the Railway Board and the Rajasthan governmment,'' the official said.

Two additional pairs of special trains have also been pressed into service on the Jaipur-Ringus-Rewari metre gauge route, which has connectivity with Delhi through broad gauge route trains at Rewari.

The other trains which would run on their normal route include Amritsar-Bandra Paschim Express, New Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani Express, Nizamuddin-Kota Janshatabdi Express and Jammu Tawi-Bandra Swaraj Express.

''We are constantly monitoring the situation for the resumption of more trains,'' the official said.

Meanwhile, 12 trains, including Delhi-Ahmedabad Ashram Express, Nizamuddin-Madgaon Express and New Bhuj-Bareily Express which were scheduled for today's journey, were cancelled and three trains were partially cancelled. Also, eight trains have been diverted.

Yesterday, 24 trains were suspended in view of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

Quoting a report from the North Central Railway, the official said a mob agitation at Boraki Halt between Dadri-Ajaibpur on Ghaziabad-Aligarh Junction at 0655 hrs resulted in eight trains being held up on the section.

The five trains cancelled today by Northern Railway were New Delhi-Ajmer Express, Bareily-New Bhuj Express, Hazrat Nizamuddin-Kota Express, Delhi-Ahmedabad Ashram Express and Nizamuddin-Madgaon Express.

North Central Railway cancelled Gwalior-Jaipur Express while West Central cancelled Kota-Nizamuddin Express.

The three partially cancelled trains were Jammu Tawi-Jaipur Express (cancelled between Delhi and Jaipur), Jaipur-Jammu Tawi Express (between Jaipur and Delhi) and Jaipur-Jabalpur Express (between Jaipur and Kota).

Among the trains which were diverted today were Amritsar-Bandra Paschim Exp, Firozpur-Mumbai Central Express, Nizamuddin-Ahmedabad Exp., Jammu Tawi-Mumbai Central Express, Haridwar-Ahmedabad Mail and Ranchi-Ajmer Express.
