Rehabilitation programme for slum dwellers lauded
Chandigarh, Jun 2 (UNI) The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has lauded the Chandigarh Administration's rehabilitation programme for slum dwellers.
The committee in its 126th report appreciated the ambitious programme of the Union Territory Administration to rehabilitate the slum dwellers by constructing dwelling units and giving them on rent.
The committee desired that the construction of units be started and completed at the earliest so that shifting of slum dwellers could be done as early as possible.
The committee was happy to note that much progress has already taken place in setting up of the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park. Terming it as 'the only park of its kind in the Northern India', the committee noted that several companies have already been allotted land.
The Committee has recommended to the Chandigarh Administration that all efforts should be made to ensure that the technology park was completed in all respects at the earliest.
