Purnendu plans TV serial with HP in background

Mandi, Jun 2 (UNI) Noted script writer, Purnendu Shekhar, who shot to prominence following the telecast of serials like Saat Phere, Kum Kum and Astitva, says he is planning a serial with Himachal Pradesh in the background.

''I am in Himachal to understand the culture and the people of the state before actually writing a script for a television serial,'' he told UNI here.

Mr Shekhar says he shifted to writing scripts for television serials from films due to the ''satisfying experience'' with the small screen and wide range of viewers.

Replying to a question as to why small screen serials continue to run even after reaching a dead end, he said it has more to do with TRP ratings than anything else.

''If the serial continues to attract viewers and its ratings remain high, the producers will try to give a new twist to the serial and the hapless script writer will do his bidding,'' he said.

He says he began his career as a journalist and after a few years shifted over to writing stories and dialogues for films and later for serials only.

''I have also written a story of the film titled ''Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha'' starring Salman Khan and Preeti Jinta.'' However, the script writer says he was now concentrating on writing stories for small screen only due to some bitter experience while in the film industry, while refusing to spell them out.
