Protesting teachers lathi charged in Sultanpur Lodhi

Kapurthala, June 2 (UNI) About a dozen computer teachers were injured in a lathicharge on teachers who had 'gharoed' Education Minister Upinderjit Kaur at Sultanpur Lodhi today.

According to police sources more than three hundred computer teachers whose services were terminated by the previous congress government assembled at Sultanpur Lodhi and 'gharoed' the Education minister for four hours to demand their resinstatement of serivce as promised by the Shiromani Akali Dal before the assembly elections.

The Education Minister expressed her inaability to reinstate them and promised to put forward their demands to the government.

This agitated teachers 'gharoed' the car of the Minister and the police had to resort to lathi charge resulting in injuries to about one dozen teachers.

Dr Upinderjit Kaur was in Sultanpur Lodhi in connection with 'sangat darshan' programmee. She also held a meeting with the agitating teachers but failed to satisfy them.
