Policeman commits suicide

Varanasi, June 2 (UNI) A police constable posted in the Kotwali area here today committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance.

Shiv Shankar Pal (40) stationed at the Ambia Mandi police outpost took poison at his rented accommodation near Adampur railway colony.

Pal was rushed to the district hospital, where he died.

The constable, hailing from Gyanpur in neighbouring Bhadohi district, had returned from his native place today after a three-day leave.

Family tension is suspected to be the reason behind the extreme step, police said.
