Haryana Govt appreciated for successful TB Cure Programme

Chandigarh, June, 2 (UNI) The Second National TB Control Implementation Support Mission has complimented the Haryana Government for its successful implementation of the TB Cure Programme in the State.

While stating this here today, state Health Department spokesman said that a team of the Mission had visited Haryana from May 31 to June one with the purpose to review the implementation of the Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) in the state.

The team consisted of Meera Priyadarshani, Emanuele Capobianco, both from the World Bank, Robin Mardeusz from USAID and Dr Geetanjali from the Union Government.

The members of the team also lauded the efforts of the state government in involving the participation of community DOT Providers and Private sector in the programme, he added.

He said that the team had suggested that to further succeed in the programme for completely eliminating TB from the state, efforts should be made to increase the case detection.

While appreciated the involvement of all the Medical Colleges in the programme, the members of the team advised to further strengthen it so that DOTS Plus regime, which was Treatment for Multi Drug Resistant Patients could be effectively implemented by March 2008.

The Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary, Health, Ms Urvashi Gulati assured the delegation that Haryana is totally committed to the programme and will make more efforts to further strengthen it.

The team further appreciated that that Haryana would become one of the first three states to start diagnosis of Multi Drug Resistant cases, he added.

He said the team had also highly appreciated the State Government for setting up and functioning of Intermediate Reference Laboratory which was set up at Karnal in the year 2006 during its visit to the laboratory.

He informed that the team visited three districts of Haryana including Rohtak, Karnal and Panchkula and inspected PHC, CHC and a hospital. The team also visited PGIMS, Rohtak, District TB centre, Karnal and PHC Barwala and CHC, Sampla. Later the team visited a community DOT Provider, (House Wife) at Karnal who had cured about 318 TB patients and then the team visited a private practitioner, he added.

He informed that the team was accompanied by Dr Vijay Garg, State TB Officer and Dr Manju Behl, WHO consultant from Haryana.
