FNJ condemns arrest of Nepali journalist by Indian police
Kathmandu, June 2 (UNI) Federation of Nepalese Journalists has condemned the arrest of journalist Daya Ram Dahal by Indian security personnel.
"The Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB) of India arrested Dahal from Mechi Bridge while he was covering the Bhutanese refugees' campaign to return to their country", the Federation said in a press release issued here today.
"The SSB has accused him of encroaching the border, which is not true," the statement said.
India has filed a writ petition against Dahal charging him of border encroachment.
Meanwhile, the local journalists in Jhapa said that Dahal was severely beaten while covering the return of Bhutanese refugees, who were stopped to enter into Bhutan by Indian security forces.
